In a Western Australian (WA) first, a 24-hour Woolworths is likely to open down in the eastern suburbs all thanks to a nifty little retail loophole.
The grocery store giant will be dodging WA’s restrictive retail trading hours by being built near Perth Airport on WA land (traditional land of the Whadjuk people); however, it is governed by Commonwealth law.
The ever-so handy locale has created a retail escape clause, if you will, that could mean 24-hour trading isn’t off of the cards at the store upon completion – and with the opportunity for such things in arms reach, why the heck not, right?
This particular economic zone near Perth Airport is where trading hours are deregulated, and only few shops are exceptions to the norm – night owls rejoice.
This is huge news for those who work through day-time trading hours, or for those who simply don’t have the energy during the day to venture out into the world.
Although the 24-hour aspect of the new Woolworths store isn’t set in stone, it’s likely that this loophole opportunity won’t be forsaken. The store is currently under construction and is due to open its doors in August 2023 – but stay tuned for further updates!
