What would you do if your fiancée dumped you for a new lover just days before the wedding? In a moment of sheer desperation, who would you turn to for advice: your mates, a therapist, your family, or… your go-to AI chatbot? This is what Will O’Mahony’s dark comedy explores at DAY (AFTER DAY) IN THE LIFE OF THE USELESS, a brand-new Black Swan State Theatre Company commission.
The show opened on 29 August but you can still catch the multi award-winning actor and director’s new work at the Heath Ledger Theatre (State Theatre Centre of WA). Similarly, if you’re intrigued by AI implications on society, The Jury Experience in Perth offers productions on the ever present topic of AI, particularly the juxtaposition of human judgment and emotionless algorithms in legal matters.

DAY (AFTER DAY) IN THE LIFE OF THE USELESS: Dates and tickets
The show follows Pete, a recently dumped man who just can’t seem to catch a break in life. After many missteps, he decides to rely on AI to rebuild his life. We may see ourselves reflected in Pete, trying to navigate our daily struggles in this new age of technology, where everything is fast-paced, easily replaced and not meant to last.
Written by and starring Will O’Mahony, the hilarious dark comedy is told in 45 chapters over the course of 1 hour 45 minutes (no interval). This is the last week to catch the show, with the final date being 20 September. Tickets start at $35 and you can get them here.
