Subiaco’s Rokeby Road has always been a hive for eating, drinking, retail and boutique stores; there’s always something new to discover along the shopping strip. Joining the Subi ranks in August 2022 is Bar Amelie – a French-inspired wine and hors d’oeuvre bar that opened on the down-low in April of 2022.
The contemporary bar pays homage to the story of Amelie; a French girl who’s mission was to make others happy. And it’s hard not to be when you step foot inside Bar Amelie – with their soothing turquoise colour scheme to boot and vibrant murals which coat the walls.
As you sit back in the cushioned booths – sip on Bar Amelie’s wide selection of wines, classic cocktails and a small local craft beer range. Although, you won’t find a traditional wine list here, but instead, wine stories.
Bar Amelie owners, Kat Dehavilland and Kim Knight share, “We don’t differentiate or sequence our wine list into specific styles and regions, but instead we provide different representations of the grape.”
“We have created a wine wall in the back room where you can go on a bit of a journey. Here you’ll find a wall of bottles, of Back Vintage Premium Wines, where each bottle tells a story,” Kat and Kim tell us.
As well as the wines with a twist, you’ll also find drops from boutique wine producers and familiar brands and types. And as far as food is concerned, feast your eyes on these tasty morsels from Bar Amelie’s menu.
Kat and Kim state, “Our concept of comfort and conversation means we want to serve food that helps create memories, these include share plates that showcase the very best of local produce.
“Tapas plates encourage people to interact, and that is a key element of our mission. Food is passion and passion creates memorable moments,” Kat and Kim conclude.
Bar Amelie is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4pm until late, and Fridays through to Sundays from 12pm until late. See you there!
