After churning up the ice cream scene in Perth by opening their first gelateria back in 2016, Chicho Gelato have taken it a step further and opened a second location right in the crux of Fremantle.
Over the years, Chicho have amassed a following of sweets-lovers and perhaps some savoury convertees too, compelling the people of Perth to travel great distances to get some of Chicho’s melty goo over their taste buds – well, south-siders, travel great distances no more.
The new Freo store boasts a vintage facade with a red and white colour scheme that takes you back to yesteryear. While the interior pays homage to Fremantle’s iconic limestone with an au naturel feature wall, and an otherwise sleek set-up thanks to local architects, Ohlo Studio.
In a previous time, Chicho Gelato’s new site belonged to PADI Dive Shop, where Freo’s friendly, although inanimate, scuba diver greeted passerbys from the shop window on the corner of Market and Cantonment Street.
It’s no wonder Chicho are known far and wide – they make all of their gelato from scratch, on site, daily; using whole and seasonal ingredients. Freo’s menu features Chicho’s signature flavours with the likes of: mint chocolate brownie, salted caramel cracker, and lavender honeycomb, alongside new innovations created just for the Fremantle store.
And on top of all that, Chicho produce specials that are truly wild, yet genius flavour combinations and creations too including: the honeycake sando, pineapple tart (shortbread cookie, pineapple jam, coconut pandan gelato), black sesame yuzu gelato, and banana oat milk gelato which just happened to be vegan.
Another feature of Chicho Gelato, making them a standout, is their free-flowing tap which exudes a constant stream of liquid chocolate, ready to top your frozen delights at any given moment. Plus, the optioanl blob of thick whipped cream to smother your choice of ice cream.

Chicho Gelato Fremantle are open Friday through to Saturday between 11am and 11pm, and Sunday through to Thursday between 11am and 10pm.
