The Secret Perth team recently ventured into Harry Potter™: A Forbidden Forest Experience to see if it lived up to the hype, and we’re happy to report that it absolutely does. Hidden amongst the towering trees of Perth Hills, the after-dark trail transforms the bush into a magical world filled with enchanting creatures, familiar faces and plenty of interactive surprises. From the moment we stepped beneath the illuminated canopy, it felt less like a themed attraction and more like we’d wandered straight into the Wizarding World. Beautifully designed and full of nostalgic moments, it’s one of the most immersive experiences we’ve visited this year.

From the very first lantern-lit steps into the forest, the atmosphere was nothing short of breathtaking. Every twist in the trail revealed another magical surprise, with theatrical lighting, cinematic soundscapes and beautifully crafted installations that made us feel we’d wandered straight into the Forbidden Forest itself. Along the way we came face-to-face with our favourite creatures including Buckbeak the Hippogriff, curious Nifflers, elegant unicorns and mischievous Pixies. Interactive wand experiences made the journey even more immersive; we had a chance to cast spells, illuminate hidden corners of the forest and even conjure our own Patronus. Watching the forest seemingly respond to every flick of our wands took us right back to that childhood belief in real magic!
Familiar characters appeared throughout the trail, with Hagrid welcoming guests into his world and Harry and Draco making an appearance during their infamous detention in the forest. Every section felt thoughtfully designed, encouraging us to slow down, take in the scenery and discover hidden magical touches tucked amongst the trees. The grand finale was just as delightful; The Village, a charming Hogsmeade™-inspired hub, provided the perfect place to warm up after our adventure. We toasted marshmallows by the fire pit, indulged in themed sweet treats, and, of course, enjoyed a frothy Butterbeer™.

Harry Potter™: A Forbidden Forest Experience can be found at Hedley Jorgensen Park in Kalamunda, just under an hour from Perth’s CBD. The experience runs for approximately 60 to 90 minutes, with the walking trail itself taking around 45 to 75 minutes to complete (although we had such a fun time that we stayed longer!). Tickets are available across a range of evening sessions, and all ages are welcome, although children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Parking is available via an off-site shuttle service from S&R Orchard, while limited accessible parking is provided closer to the venue. As the trail follows natural bushland paths with some uneven and steep sections, we recommend comfortable walking shoes and warm clothing for a cosy winter evening beneath the stars.
If you’ve ever dreamed of receiving your Hogwarts letter, this is probably the closest you’ll come without boarding the Hogwarts Express. Beautifully produced, wonderfully immersive and packed with magical moments for fans of every age, Harry Potter™: A Forbidden Forest Experience is one of Perth’s standout events this winter.
