You might have fond memories of winning triumphantly at a game of Monopoly. Or, you might remember rage-quitting, and flipping the table in anger. Whether you had some great bonding moments, or heated arguments with your family, this board game is a staple of every household and game night. Get ready to see and play Monopoly like never before, because a massive Monopoly theme park is coming to Melbourne Central, and you can bet that we’re keen on a weekend getaway once it does. The Monopoly Dreams theme park will be the second in the world, after Hong Kong, and double the size. This immersive experience is scheduled to open on September 1, 2023.
Monopoly Dreams
The $20 million theme park will stretch over 1650 square metres inside Melbourne Central. Modelled after the original in Hong Kong, this exciting destination will be divided into two sections, with 15 attractions in total.
The first section is Monopoly City, which is designed to mirror Melbourne. Pass Go into a neon-lit tunnel, and ride the railway inside a 4D theatre. Generate energy on a bike at the Electric Company, grab money at the Bank, play a Water Works projection Game, and score real prizes at the Chance wheel.
If you end up in jail, you’ll compete against six other people to roll a double with a massive set of dice.
Then, ascend a lift into Monopoly Mansion, and see where Mr Monopoly lives. Admire a magic mirror, and a huge golden helicopter inside.
Win Monopoly money throughout the park to spend at the on-site café, or in the retail store.
The attraction is expected to welcome 600,000 people a year, with tickets to cost $30 to $40. It will be open for public visits, birthday parties, school excursions and special events.
