The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is known to put on a grand show for the sensors, with current exhibitions such as Star Machine. And now, AGWA is hosting a launch party for the ages to kick off Yoshitomo Nara’s Reach Out To The Moon, Even If We Can’t exhibition.
The launch party, dubbed Nara After Dark grants you access to be one of the first in Perth to view the premiere of Yoshitomo’s solo Australian exhibition in a night of live music, DJs, and exclusive drinks on Saturday 26 February.
Reach Out To The Moon, Even If We Can’t brings together major sculptural works alongside paintings, drawings, ceramics, and photography in AGWA’s largest gallery, ever-so dramatically.
“The sculptural works form a series of interrelated islands that span a range of feeling states. Individually and collectively, they demonstrate Nara’s unsurpassed ability to convey emotional nuance with clarity and moving intensity. The feeling of these works is echoed by surrounding drawings, paintings and ceramics in Nara’s distinctive style,” according to AGWA.
Headlining the entertainment are acclaimed Perth psychedelic rock band, Pond who are bound to electrify the room with their hit tunes with the likes of Daisy, Waiting Around For Grace, Paint Me Silver, and Sweep Me Off My Feet. Oh, and a special guest it in store too!
Along with the visual and audio spectacle, a special bar boasting a curated drinks list of Japanese gin, whisky, and cocktails will be available on the night to tantalise your taste buds. That said, Nara After Dark is an 18+ event, sorry kids.
If you can’t make it to the Nara After Dark launch party, Yoshitomo Nara’s Reach Out to The Moon, Even If We Can’t exhibition opens to the public on Sunday 26 February at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
