Reel in the spring season this year with the return of Oktoberfest In The Gardens – Australia’s largest, funnest, most chaotic Oktoberfest celebration around. On Saturday 8 October, dust off your lederhosen and dirndls, grab a gigantic mega pint of beer, and imagine that the banks of the Swan River’s Langley Park is some place nice in Germany.
The afternoon will be far from a bore with plenty of activities and entertainment to partake in, inspired by the traditional Bavarian festival. Oktoberfest in the Gardens will feature: two massive beer halls, roving performers, a sideshow alley (queue the bumper cars), silent disco, dodgeball arena, a wood chopping demonstration, and a mix of live music and competitions across multiple stages throughout the afternoon and evening.
The said beer hall is designed to replicate the traditional München festival – with host to a long list of German entertainers including, brass bands, roving accordion players, pretzel fräuleins, and yodellers…we repeat, yodellers.
Get stuck into a number of the on-stage competitions that will be held across the day too – there will be prizes for Miss and Mr Oktoberfest, stein holdings, and bratwurst eating champions and a number of other traditional Oktoberfest games. How many sausages do you reckon you could smash?
Speaking of food, authentic German food stalls will be on hand to help the booze go down just nicely. You’ll be able to indulge in offerings with the likes of: kranskis and curry wurst with sauerkraut, pork knuckles, Bavarian meatloaf, Reuben sandwiches, wood-fired flammkuchen, and warm pretzels – to mention a few!
In terms of alcoholic beverages, gulp on Oktoberfest’s huge range of imported beers and ciders, namely: Hofbrau Original Lager, Hefe and Dunkel, Kaiserdom Pilsner and Lager, Elmars Pilsner and Marzen, and Hundehaus Original Lager – and that’s just scraping the tip of the iceberg…or bratwurst, should we say. And if beer isn’t your thing, never fear, there will be wines and schnapps up for grabs too.
With your humongous beer in one hand and your knuckle sandwich in the other, take in the sounds at the main outdoor stage – featuring top local bands throughout the day and the best DJs in town dropping beats late into the night. A glorious sunset is imminent across Langley Park.
Get into that Oktoberfest spirit and raise your glasses to good times, good mates and good beer this October.
