Forget the mining boom, there appears to be a market boom going down in Perth. First, Markets By The Sea made a return earlier this month, and now Summer X Salt Markets are back for yet another season at Trigg Beach, starting this month!
From Saturday 22 October, Clarko Reserve will be host to the award-winning beachside market, every dang fortnight through t0 18 March 2023.
Summer X Salt is the ideal market for conscious folk and ocean lovers, with a keen focus on sustainability; being a completely plastic-free and zero waste affair. It’s easy to see how Summer X Salt took home to WA’s Best Small Event award in 2021.
The surfy-salty market sees a huge line-up of more than 200 ocean-inspired local creatives, artists and designers showcasing their goods. You can expect to see market stalls with the likes of Pablo & Truff, Deckhand Bodysurfing, Ocean Remedy, and Sofie Seyah Illustration, to name a few.
And to compliment the moseying that you’ll likely be doing around the grounds, enjoy live music by emerging musicians, get the kids into some nature play activites, or get your hands dirty during a coastal clean-up.
There will even be free outdoor wellness sessions on offer including yoga classes, meditation, sound healing, pilates and a new 6am run club in collaboration with Perth Run Collective and Lululemon to support the health and connection of the community.
And as you keep a whether eye on the stalls, you’ll likely be in the mood for a bit of a snack. Well never fear, delicious food and drinks trucks will be on site to satisfy the tummy rumblies that only market trucks can satisfy.
Summer X Salt aims to foster community connection, empower creatives, and encourages positive and sustainable practices to benefit the planet.
Summer X Salt Markets Event Directors, Sophie Keate and Mei Wan Yong say, “Since it began in 2016, the markets have supported more than 2000 small businesses. It welcomes more than 10,000 visitors annually and injects $1 million in revenue into the local economy.”
Sophie Keate adds that as well as growing from strength to strength, the markets are now a leader in sustainable events. “We are committed to ensuring our planet is nurtured and taken care of for future generations to come.
“We’ve been championing the zero-waste movement since our very first season, being Perth’s first 100 per cent plastic free and waste-free event. Each year we run beach clean ups – over the last three years more than 500 kilograms of litter has been picked up off Trigg Beach.
“We also have a mug library, where mugs and utensils are available for the public to borrow. Over the years this initiative alone has saved 25,000 single-use coffee cups from being used. We’re also a carbon neutral event, partnering with Carbon Positive Australia to offset our emissions. Last year, 600 native trees were planted.”
Summer X Salt Markets will be in full swing every first and third Saturday of the month between 8am and 1pm, launching on 22 October. While the additional activities times include: free run club from 6am until 7am, free meditation classes from 7am until 8am, free yoga classes from 8am until 9am, free pilates classes from 9am until 10am, and knature play activities and coastal clean-ups from 9am until 11am.
“It’s our mission to create happy and inclusive communities that support, grow, and thrive as one. We want to initiate the ripple effect and empower market goers to continue to spread these important messages, so we can achieve a better and more sustainable future for all,” Sophie concludes.
