ThornBird — the solo project of Vikki Thorn, best known as a founding member of iconic Australian band The Waifs — is returning to her home state. Western Australia will put on three shows in all. This includes two shows in October at Fremantle and Margaret River.
Thorn has spent more than three decades fronting The Waifs. But her 2022 self-titled debut album as ThornBird established her as a solo force. The record earned five-star reviews, an ARIA nomination, and a WAMI nomination for Best Blues and Roots Artist. A strong debut by any measure, it cemented her reputation beyond The Waifs.
When she performs live, ThornBird revolves around Thorn’s voice. It’s raw, weathered, and front and centre over a tight band that knows when to pull back and let her breathe. The sound lands somewhere between blues, folk, and Australiana Americana. This is music that feels like it was shaped by open coastlines and long drives, not a studio brief.
WA show dates
- Saturday, September 26: Wave Rock Weekender at Wave Rock Caravan Park, Hyden
- Friday, October 16: Mojos at Fremantle
- Saturday, October 17: The River at Margaret River
