Valentine’s Day is upon us and there’s love in the air whether you like it or not. Perhaps you’re looking to take a loved one somewhere memorable, or ever-so empathetically treat a friend who’s sensitive to the whole ‘day of love’ thing right now. Or maybe you’re the walking red flag and you’re going it solo. Either way, there’s some real nice spots to experience a special Valentine’s Day dinner in Perth – here’s who’s hosting.
1. The Heritage Wine Bar
On this year’s day of love, The Heritage Wine Bar will be bursting with a delectable array of this season’s best. Chef Gord Kahle’s special set menu will see the likes of Indian Ocean lobster, freshly picked wood ear mushrooms, regeneratively farmed and pasture raised meats, and the sweetest of summer fruits. Heritage will also be offering a wine pairing that’ll take lovers on a flash trip around the globe from Margaret River to the vine covered valleys and hills of Burgundy, Piedmont and the Rhone Valley. Book in here.

Think Manjimup Marron with peppermint gum and ajo blanco, and south-west lamb with harissa, carrot, rose, and cinnamon myrtle. Complement the fare with your choice of the Western Australian wine pairing or an artisanal selection of non-alcoholic libations. Book your spot here.

5. Balthazar
Although not strictly hosting a Valentine’s Day special, Balthazar is debatably one of Perth’s best restaurants. Situated in a stunning art deco apartment block, Balthazar serves fare with a focus on local produce and pours minimal intervention wines. Their a la carte menu sounds like: duck breast with plum, red onion, and native thyme; fish market crudo with grapes, almonds, and verjus; and cavolo nero risotto with mozzarella and black garlic. Find out more here.

Offering big flavours on your plate, and boutique beer, seasonal cocktails, and small-batch wines in glass. Being Perth’s only revolving restaurant, there’s no better place to witness the setting sun over the Swanny R (Swan River) with reflective views that dreams are made of, all whilst feasting. C Restaurant in the Sky is perched on the 33rd floor of St. Martins Tower and cook up modern Australian fare with their Valentine’s Day dinner plating up a sensible three courses. Char-grilled fillet of beef with pomme dauphine, wild mushroom puree, bearnaise sauce, and tarragon oil; and Fremantle octopus with Moroccan spices, baba ghanoush, preserved lemon, and fermented chilli oil are up for grabs. 8. Post
Post is a rather fine Italian restaurant with a philosophy that follows, “the pleasures of good food, good wine, and good company are such that they remain suspended in time — a joy forever.” Again, high quality and local produce are at the forefront of Post’s dishes, with Executive Chef Kim Brennan’s menu paying homage to European simplicity. As for Valentine’s Day, Post will cater a three-course feast which sounds a little like pork cotoletta with sage, anchovy mayonaise, and Parmigiana; beef carpaccio; and ricotta gnocchi with tomato sugo and Castello, etc. Tables here.

9. Hearth
Boasting brilliant views over Elizabeth Quay, Hearth (we suppose that’s a combination of ‘heart’ and ‘Perth’) embraces the energy of an open-fire and honours Western Australian producers and wineries – how good. Hearth’s V-Day menu goes all out with five-courses with an optional wine pairing, with fare including: La Delizia Stracciatella heirloom tomatoes; southwest raw scallops; Boddington lamb; and wild caught local fish; and wagyu beef from Margaret River. It’s beauty by the bay – better book!

10. Fleur
Having recently won the 2022 AHA National Award for Excellence for the Best Restaurant in the Metropolitan, Fleur really is it. With delicate dried flower arrangements and earthy tones adorning the space, it’s the plain-white-wall lover’s nightmare – but we love it. Five-courses can be indulged in at Fleur’s Valentine’s Day dinner with modern French dishes being their thing, by candlelight, of course. Think: braised cauliflower quiche; barbecued market fish; steak tartare; and oeuf mollet, so on and so forth. Give them a shout here.
