Nestled in the Perth Hills, John Forrest National Park is the first and oldest of its kind in Western Australia. Located 30 minutes from Perth, this iconic WA location now has a new elevated walkway to make visits even better. This 250-metre-long Glen Brook walkway promises panoramic views from a raised height. Learn more about this new addition to the park.
The Glen Brook elevated walkway at John Forrest National Park
Accessible from the eastern end for now, this new walkway is constructed from corten steel and reclaimed spotted gum timber. The 250-metre stretch overlooks the creek and magnificent granite outcrops, unobtrusively integrating with the surrounding park landscape.
Presently, you can reach the walkway by way of a temporary pedestrian ramp and a short link just off the Glen Brook trail. The West Ridge amenities plaza and park hub are under construction. Once completed, the walkway will connect the two with the day-use area and Jane Brook picnic areas.
A multi-year improvement project has been in place to make John Forrest more accessible to all kinds of visitors. Apart from the walkway and park hub (with a café and interpretation space), the existing picnic area, gardens, and carparking will be renovated. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions (DBCA) also has walking and new off-road cycling trails in development.

With new trailhead signage, the West Ridge carpark (pictured above) provides context about the National Park. Information on the walking and off-road cycling trails, the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail, and more is available here. Freshly reopened, Scenic Drive serves as a one-way between the Great Eastern Highway’s western entry and the intersection of the access road to West Ridge.
By consulting park users, key stakeholders and Traditional Owners, the DBCA attempts to create long-term improvement at the John Forrest National Park. For more about the project, visit the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions (DBCA) website.
