Who doesn’t love pizza? North Beach certainly does! The Perth suburb has a pizzeria voted the best pizza in WA in the Asia Pacific 50 Top Pizza Awards for the second consecutive year. With a well-leavened sourdough crust, delicious toppings, and a passionate connection to Italy, Maestro Sourdough Pizza should be on your list for a weekend dinner spot.
Husband-wife pair Andrea Brunelli and Chiara Mezzasoma co-own the place. The COVID-19 pandemic led to large-scale layoffs in the restaurant business. Suddenly, Brunelli found himself without an income. After 10 years of pizzeria experience in WA (and years working in his family’s food factory in Umbria, Italy), what is a man to do but keep making pizzas out of his home? One thing led to another, and Maestro Sourdough Pizza opened in the last quarter of 2020, smack in the middle of the pandemic. Truly a creation tale for the ages.
Maestro Sourdough Pizza: Bringing Italy to WA since 2020

The North Beach spot wins because of the quality of ingredients. The imported Italian flour used in the dough, 80-hour natural rising, and 90-second cook time (at 480° in an electric oven) yield a crisp yet satisfyingly chewy sourdough crust. The San Marzano tomatoes (in the Rossa) add freshness, producing as authentic a Neapolitan pizza as one can in WA.
And yet, Maestro Sourdough Pizza has never shied away from experimenting with its toppings. Consider its limited edition Itadakimasu pizza with wagyu beef, wasabi mayo and a soy sauce reduction atop bok choy cream base and sauteed leaves, for instance. Celebrating its selection in the Top 50 Pizzas Asia-Pacific held in Tokyo, the toppings are decidedly not Italian.
Maintaining high standards while constantly innovating, Maestro Sourdough Pizza is a testament to the melting pot that is WA; traditions meet, blend, and integrate themselves into the food culture in unique ways.
For a classic meal, try the 5-course Maestro Experience degustation pizza menu. Proudly rooted in heritage, it takes a culinary journey through the Italian peninsula from north to south.
