It’s about that time of the year again – the annual bicycle race that stops bike fanatics around the world, Tour de France is upon us. In honour of the prestigious two-wheeler event, Fremantle will be host to the very first Tour de Freo – a food tour for all to participate.
Starting from July 2nd, four of Fremantle’s eateries will team up to offer their goodies in a roving long lunch affair. Said eateries will include; Baller’s Freo, Pretzel Australia, San Churro and the Palace Arcade – a winning combo.
You’ll be crossing the starting line for the Tour de Freo at Palace Arcade – this can be at any time that’s best for you between 12pm and 2:30pm. Here, you’ll receive a ticket to take with you along your journey that’ll grant you access to the other participating venues.
At the Palace Arcade you’ll be feasting on a slice of their best-selling 22-inch pizza and sipping on a vibrant cocktail to wash it all down. Choose from their margarita, pepperoni, Hawaiian or pizza of the month and pair it with one of their chi chi spritz, apple pie sour or cherry ripe espresso martini cocktails.
Next, it’s recommended that you zoom on over to Pretzel Fremantle. FYI, you’re more than welcome to visit the uniting eateries in an order that suits you – however, distance wise, this particular sequence just makes sense. Nevertheless, Pretzel Australia will be giving you a choice between any of their freshly baked pretzels – tough decisions are on the horizon!
Continuing your journey, scoot on down to Baller’s – Freo’s favourite sports bar that is offering burgers for days. Get a handle(bar) around either Baller’s famous cheeseburger or the karaage chicken sandwich – both served with a side of fries and your choice of tap beer. Honestly, we’d be impressed if you’re raring to go at this point.
For the last leg of Tour de Freo, get on over to San Churro – the Spanish chocolatiers that never fail to hit the sweet spot. Here, you will be provided with their classic, homemade churros with your choice of chocolate sauce and any hot drink to warm you up from the inside out.
If you’re still standing after the Tour de Freo, then you’ll be up for the performance of the century in our eyes.
The Tour de Freo takes place every Saturday throughout July and can accommodate vegans, vegetarians and those that are after non-alcoholic beverages.
So what are you waiting for – on ya bike!
