A new world-class attraction will soon light up Perth’s riverfront. Starting July 2, 2026, a giant observation wheel will grace the corner of Riverside Drive and Governor’s Avenue. At 36 metres, SkyVista is about as tall as a 10-storey building. Hoping to draw crowds through the July school holidays and beyond, this ride offers mind-blowing views of the city.

Patrons will be propelled above the Swan River foreshore in 24 climate-controlled gondolas that seat up to six. The reward? Bird’s-eye views of Perth CBD, river, and city scenery for nine full minutes, which is how long the rotation takes. These carriages get cooled by an aerodynamic ventilation system powered by the wheel’s gentle orbit. Correspondingly, the gondolas remain cool without air conditioning.
Additionally, the gondolas (and venue as a whole) are fully accessible for wheelchair and pram users. Service and assistance animals can accompany their owners, making it inclusive by design.
While the daytime views are certainly a sight to behold, it is after sunset that SkyVista’s true beauty comes through. 125,952 RGB LED light points that can produce 16.7 million colours shine brightly against the Perth skyline, creating a glowing display.
Mondial Rides, a world-renowned Dutch 45-year-old veteran manufacturer, constructed the observation wheel. However, ShowVista Entertainment Group, the team behind Carnival Amusements, owns and operates SkyVista, giving it the much-needed WA local touch.

How to get there
Driving down to the corner of Riverside Drive and Governor’s Avenue seems like the easiest option, with paid parking available at the City of Perth Terrace Road Car Park. However, you could also consider taking public transport, as the wheel is about a 10-minute walk from the Elizabeth Quay train and bus station and the Elizabeth Quay ferry terminal.
